General Radio Type 1181-A was created to test the frequency stability of broadcast transmitters. Typically this piece of equipment was used in the use of AM radio transmitters to stay in regulated bodies by the FCC!
How it works? The monitor compares the transmitter's frequency to a stable internal oscillator. Any difference in frequency is displayed on the meter, indicating deviation in cycles per second.
